Set Up the Conquest Desktop Extender

Install the Desktop Extender on client PCs, where there is a requirement to handle Conquest III generated emails in Microsoft Outlook. The Desktop Extender does this by Elevating the Privilege of Microsoft Silverlight in the Web Browser, allowing it to execute other software on the target PC. At this point in time Microsoft Outlook is the only candidate that Conquest III is programmed to run this way but the Desktop Extender itself, is not restricted to any particular software. See How To Set Up E-mail for details.

On target PCs, installing the Desktop Extender:

Applies a Windows Registry setting to allow the installation of a Code Certificate for a Silverlight application

Installs a Conquest III Code Certificate, to give only the Conquest III - Silverlight application the Elevated Privilege to run other Client Side software

Things to be aware of:

Elevated Privilege will allow Documents to be opened in their native application e.g. Windows Picture Viewer on a JPG image. The Viewer will behave as if the file was local and will allow it to be deleted but Conquest III will behave as if the file still exists. It will still have to be deleted using the Conquest III task to do so

The Elevation of Privilege does not apply to the User; just to certificated Silverlight applications such as Conquest III. It is Execution privilege, not Administrator privilege

The Conquest III Code Certificate does not enable Elevated Privilege for other applications

Other Silverlight applications with an installed certificate will also be able to use Elevated Privilege as a result of the Windows Registry setting, although the presence of such certificates suggests that the Windows Registry setting has already been done

Uninstalling the Destop Extender removes the Conquest III, Elevated Privilege Code Certificate but does not change the Windows Registry setting

When Conquest III is running under “localhost or 127.0.0.1”, Elevated permission will show as enabled
