Scenarios

A Scenario consists of a Budget and a Priority specification, along with the resulting Works Program and Network Condition.

A scenario can be deleted using the Delete Scenario Button .

A scenario can be created for network modelling by using the Add Scenario Button  :

The following screen appears.

Type in the Scenario Description

Select a start date of model.  This is the date from which the predicted road results will be calculated.  Note: the software will produce an error if the start date is before any of the inspection dates of the segments.  Ensure that the start date is later than the last inspection date.

Select the Budget from the drop-list.  It is populated with the Budgets created in the Budget Section (see the description below).

Select the Budget Allocation from the drop list.  It is populated with the Budget Allocations created in the Budget Allocation (see the description below).

Edit the “Weight of Condition” field to define the overall ranking of a segment for treatment.  It will be a combination of condition and priority.

Select a road filter if desired (optional).  This allows the budget to be applied to only a subset of the roads (this is useful to apply budgets selectively to the sealed and unsealed networks, for example).  The dropdown list is populated with filters created in the Scenario Filters section (see the description below).

Once the Scenario has been defined, click the Process Button  to run the Scenario.  A progress bar at the bottom left of the screen shows the processing.  When processing is complete, the list of road segments in order of treatment priority will be displayed along with the overall network condition and a summary of the actual expenditure per year.  Note that a Scenario’s expenditure may not match the budget exactly because in any particular year the segments treated will have costs not exceeding the budget, and will fall short of the budget by a small amount or even a large amount if there are few segments requiring treatment.

The Works Program display is shown below.  In this example, a deliberately small budget has been chosen to allow the overall network condition to deteriorate over time.

A Scenario’s Works Program can be exported to an MS Excel spreadsheet using the Export To Excel Button .

By running and saving multiple scenarios, an optimal funding scenario can be established.
