How To Manage Locations

The Location Editor can be used to create a hierarchy of locations for your organisation, for example it might be a break up of wards or towns or suburbs.  This then allows an Asset to be assigned an entry from this hierarchy thereby allowing filters that show all Assets in a particular location.  Because this assignment comes from a set hierarchy it eliminates typographical errors.  The location description field, which is a text field, can then be used to record specific location.

Locations are configured in the same as any other hierarchy and you should consult this reference page for information on each of the fields.

Things to be aware of:-

      It is common to record suburb or town names in the location description field but this can be difficult to filter as things can be recorded in a multitude of ways in text fields.  This is why the Location Code was introduced to assist with the consistent description of locations.
